Aharbal Kounsarnag Trek
Nestled deep within the Pir Panjal range, the Aharbal Kounsarnag Trek is one of Kashmir’s most scenic and spiritually rich alpine adventures. Starting from the breathtaking Aharbal Waterfall, often called the “Niagara Falls of Kashmir,” this trek takes you through lush meadows, dense pine forests, and snow-clad valleys leading to the mystical Kounsarnag Lake — a high-altitude glacial lake perched at around 12,000 ft.
About Aharbal and Kounsarnag Lake
Aharbal is located in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, just 70 km from Srinagar. It’s known for its roaring waterfall formed by the Veshaw River, which originates from the Kounsarnag Glacier. Kounsarnag Lake (also known as Vishnu Pad Lake) holds deep mythological significance. According to legend, Lord Vishnu left his footprints here, making it a sacred site for pilgrims and a pristine paradise for trekkers.
